When Poetry Met Ronaldo…

3 days into the month of April and I’ve been spoiled more than one can imagine. First the 2 buzzer beaters in the Women’s Final Four by Notre Dame’s Arike Ogunbowale. Then on Monday night Villanova won their 3rd NCAA Men’s Basketball Championship. Nova won the others in 1985 and 2016. They can thank the play of #WhiteDonte for their latest triumph. Then on Tuesday we saw the return of the UEFA Champions League. The top club competition in soccer. The World Cup – which will take place this summer – is the top competition in all of sports not just soccer. Real Madrid and Juventus are at it again. I discussed the history of both clubs in this post Reasons to Watch the UEFA Champions League Final  last year. The more things change the more they stay the same as Real Madrid continues to be a thorn in the side of Juventus. Real won yesterday 3-0 courtesy of goals by Cristiano Ronaldo (2 goals, 1 assist) and Marcelo (1 goal). The second goal by Ronaldo is why I’m here today. With this being National Poetry Month I had to pay homage to Ronaldo. Also of note, without Gigi Buffon’s amazing save on the attempt by Lucas Vazquez we’d never have this magic moment…

Goals of this nature are unfair

Only the truly amazing even dare

A brilliant display captured in air

The old lady glad to share

Thank you sports, thank you CR7 and thank you for reading (don’t steal my poem)
